Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia Consultancy Unit Would Not Condone Extortion By Staff-Director

The Director, Consultancy Service Unit of the Nasarawa state Polytechnic Lafia has said the Unit would not condoned extortion of money from students whatsoever.

Ibrahim Dauda, Director of the unit briefed newsmen recently. He averred that measures have been put in place to check extortion of money from students by anyone from the unit.

Saying the Unit did not make it mandatory for students to purchase textbook or handout, adding that some lecturers make it compulsory while those that defaulted are given carryover, describing the development as a stumbling block to the programme.

The Director of the Unit said Consultancy Services Unit would commenced full National Diploma (ND) programme, he buttressed that the introduction of the programme had become necessary to augment the carrying capacity of the polytechnic’s regular programmes.

Dauda further revealed that the units offered only Ordinary Diploma before this academic session, the graduates were faced with a lot of challenges in term of gaining admission for further studies.

He listed some of the National Diploma programmes being run by the unit includes, Accountancy, Business Administration, Public Administration, Mass Communication, Social Development and Science Laboratory Technology.

“These are big programmes that the heads of departments at the polytechnic’s mainstream could not accommodate the entire student, so the academic board decided to test run the programmes at the consultancy unit,” Dauda said.

While fielding questions from Journalists on the number enrollment into the programme said 800 students are currently running the ND programmes at the Consultancy Services Unit.

He said the consultancy unit as a self-sustaining entity was working assiduously towards rendering other income generating services aside training of students.

Dauda said the consultancy unit of the polytechnic has greatly impacted on the state workforce as most of the staff across the state ministries, department and agencies was trained by the unit.

He also promised that the unit would offer automatic employment to any graduating students who have distinguished him or herself by having good grade.
