The Nasarawa state commissioner for health, Dr.Emmanuel Akabe has stated that the state is free from Ebola Virus, He debunked newspaper report (Guardian newspaper) report that the state record an outbreak of Ebola virus, The commissioner stated this at a press conference held today at the ministry of health in Lafia.
‘’Nasarawa state is free of Ebola virus, He further stated that the state has taken a frantic steps in combating the spread of the virus to the state, Akabe maintain that a preventive strategies ranging from
Rapid response team, preventive attires, inter venom, disease surveillance as well sensitization and training as since commences, He further opined that 4 containers of preventive attires were distributed to all General hospitals in the state.
The commissioner averred that the state Government will broaden her advocacy to schools as well include the traditional rulers and religious bodies in the fight against outbreak of Ebola Virus in the state.
“We have our isolation unit at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital,Lafia,Adding that the unit was well equipped ,Saying that tents were also provided by the central Government as another means of preventing the spread of the deadly virus”, He maintain.
Dr.Akabe also unfolded that the Government of Nasarawa state has procured a new brand Ambulance fully equipped with sophisticated facilities to fighting the deadly Ebola virus which he described as a national disaster.
Calling on people of the state to ensure a simply and hygienic environment, also calling on people in the habit of eating bush meat like bat, monkeys and chimpanzee to desist, maintaining that bats,monkeys,chimpanzee are the causative agents of the Ebola virus.
The state commissioner of health also appealed to the people of the state to ensure proper cooking of meat, stating that Ebola virus cannot withstand heat.
‘’Contacting Ebola virus is not like one having his death warrant, said Dr.Emmanuel Akabe.
The commissioner stated that the state Government has approved the establishment of a research laboratory in the state, He also called on people of the state to be vigil of the circulation of fake preventive attires in the country.
Dr.Akabe has confirmed that no fewer than seven people died of Lassa fever in the last three years, He said six persons died of Lassa fever which was also another contagious disease, He however disclosed that the state Government is on top of the situation in the fight against Lassa Fever and Cholera.
“We have flourished in reducing the spread of the two diseases to the barest minimum, He further said the state Government will wrestle those disease headlong’’.
