  • Court Fixes 27 November 2017 For Hearing

The Nasarawa state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has dragged the state government to court over an attempt by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to sell State assets.

The move by the state government to sell the state assets within and outside the state has created mixed feelings amongst the indigenes of the state.

Counsel to PDP Ucha Ulegede at the state high court 1 followed the recent process embarked upon by the state government to dispose some of the state assets on account of having no value to the people of the state.

Speaking shortly after filling the case, Ulegede averred that the decision of the party to challenge the state government over the proposed sale of public assets was as a result of the outcry of indigenes of the state over the sales.

The opposition party prayed that the court to grant an injunction stopping the governor from further carrying out the process of disposing of the said assets.

According to the counsel “we have applied for motion ex-parte to the court’s judge Justice Suleiman Dikko restraining the state government to further continue with the process of selling the assets”.

He further said the motion has not been granted by the judge because the respondent has not been put on notice.

Ulegede explained that the court judge has ordered that the respondent should be put on notice and the assigned the matter to be heard on 27 November 2017 when it is expected both plaintiff and respondent would be present in the court.

It would be recalled that recently the Nasarawa state governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura was given an express approval by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to dispose of state assets.

The request continued to generate heat from left, right and center and got approval from the state’s house of assembly.

The controversial assets are situated in Jos, Kaduna, Lagos, and Abuja as a result of dilapidation and non-viability of the assets to the state.
