Nasarawa NUJ Expressed Dismay Over Resurgence Of Al-Mahirai, Yahoo Boys

The  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed shock over the Resurgence of Al-Majirai in the State especially the State capital. This position was taken during a Congress of the NUJ, which she observed with dismay the resurgence of Al-Majirai and the activities of Yahoo boys and scavenger.

Urging its members to prioritise human angle stories to prompt Government and security agencies to tackle the aforementioned trends in the State.

The Congress appealed to the State  Government and other stakeholders to ensure that the Almajiri School built by the former President, Good luck Jonathan are used to take those begging in the streets of Lafia and other Local Government Areas of the state.

The State Council in session, advised politicians to call their social media handlers and urged the youths to desist from using social media to cause division among the people if drivers interest in the State and to avoid overheating the polity

The Congress, Chaired by the Council Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali and attended by members of the Council, resolved as follows:

‎ Congress in session calls for attitudinal change amongst journalists in the state in the area of dress code, orderliness during events, and cautioned against crashing into events to which they are not invited.

‎The Congress frowned at the situation where press conferences are organised out of the NUJ council centre and called on members to desist from such practices.

Chapels’ leadership were encouraged to ensure timely online registration of their members in line with the union’s constitution to enable them to secure their ID cards before the forthcoming council election in the state.

 While appreciating Engineer Abdullahi Sule for being a media-friendly governor, the Congress called on him to do more in supporting the activities of journalists and urged him to sustain the infrastructural development being witnessed across the state, particularly in the Karu corridor.

Congress in session also implored the Nasarawa State government to prevail on AEDC to find lasting solutions to the epileptic power supply in Lafia and its environs.
