Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Monday commissioned three roads totalling 4.4km, a modern market in Doma Local Government Area with series of road projects
Speaking at the event in Doma Local Government Area, said the projects’ inauguration was part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of Nasarawa State.
He announced that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR has grown from N7 billion annually in 2019 to nearly N40 billion, enabling the government to execute capital projects without borrowing.
The Projects inaugurated were 1.7km RCM Primary School Junction -Yelwa Garage, spur to Andoma Palace, 2.7km Timber Shade
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has commissioned a 2km timber shade-GSS Odorogya-St Aloysius road today been 28th day of September 2026.
The commissioning was in commemoration of the 30 Years anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa state in 1996 by late Head of state, General Sani Abacha.
He attributed the remarkable feat recorded by Local Government Area Chairman to the autonomy of the third tier of Government in Nasarawa State.
According to the State Governor,When I assumed office in 2019,the Commissioner for Local Government Area, Honorable Aminu Maifata invited me to Assakio to commission a police station at Assakio.
“All the Local Government Chairmen invited me to their various Local Governments to commission roads of high standard”.
He also told the mammoth crowd, we were in the last one hour in Doma and now in Lafia.
“I will appreciate the State after my name, but not when I was in office.
“In 2019, when we assumed office, and when it rains terribly, people going to Doma and workers’ village have to stop by. I contested in 2915 but I only won in 2019.
We have people who supported us but that mark is clear. We have changed Lafia to a mega city.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is providing the funds for the development. He said his Government is ready to construct the Kwandare-Garaku road; the contract was agreed before on surface dressing and stone base, and we agreed with the construction firm at the tune of N40bn, and we will pay them N50 percent of the funds.
Governor Abdullahi Sule asked a pertinent question: Is it a politician from Lafia Local Government who will develop Lafia?.
He dismissed the impression that council autonomy began under President Bola Tinubu, noting that local governments in Nasarawa have been managing their resources and executing projects since his assumption of office.
“Today we have reached a peak of projects. This is the way to make an impact in the lives of the people,” he said.
The Governor commended Local Government Chairman, Mr Haliru Arab,o for building and equipping the PHC to standard without state support, and urged him to ignore critics and stay focused.
He said in the last few days he has commissioned federal-standard roads in Wamba, Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon and Doma, all built by Local Governments with reputable contractors.
On naming projects after him, Sule said he was uncomfortable with it while in office.
“The best way to name something after me is when I am no longer in office. The ‘A.A. Sule Legacy’ you see on projects is not naming; it is to show who built it, so that mischievous people will not deny it tomorrow,” he said.
He announced that work would soon resume on the abandoned Kwandere-Garaku road, which would now be upgraded from surface dressing to a standard federal highway with stone base and asphalt at about N40 billion after negotiation from over N50 billion.
Dr Gaza Gwamna, Commissioner for Health, described the PHC as a Level 2 facility that will provide immunization, malaria treatment, antenatal and delivery services to urban residents.
He said independent verifiers from the Federal Ministry of Health rated PHCs in Nasarawa as comparable to General hospitals elsewhere due to adequate staffing.
Mr Aminu Maifata, Commissioner for Local Government, said the project is a result of the Governor’s directive on full disbursement of signature bonuses to councils and his advice that councils use their savings to equip the clinic.
Lafia LGA Chairman, Haliru Arabo, said the project would serve the Government Reserved Area (GRA) community where no clinic existed before, noting that the Governor’s advice to leave legacies guided him.
