Nasarawa Govt Set To Fumigate All WAEC Centres—Information Commissioner

Nasarawa State Government has reiterated her determination to abide by the Federal Government directive to open schools for final year students said all centres in the State would be fumigated to avoid the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

 

The State Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Comrade Dogo Shammah gave the disclosure during an exclusive interview in his office.

 

Shammah said Nasarawa State Government is committed to fine-tuning ways by abiding by COVID-19 protocol of social distancing.

 

“There are opinions that we should merged some West Africa Examination Council centres in the State but this has been taken by the COVID-19 protocol”.

 

The Commissioner averred that the fumigation of all centres would curtail the spread of the deadly disease as well as ensure the safety of candidates, supervisors, and invigilators.

 

He said enough arrangement has been put in place for the security of lives during the examination, adding that more security would be deployed to WAEC centres.

 

He in addition maintained that provision has been made for sanitizers, soap, water, and facemasks for all candidates sitting for June 2020 WAEC examination.

 

The Commissioner condemned the killing of Mr.Benjamin Ekom by unknown gunmen at his abode in Washo in Aku development of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government.

 

Dogo Shammah condemned the killing of the two-time chairman and Treasurer of the Federated chapel as unfortunate especially to his professional colleagues, family members, and Nasarawa State Government.

 

“We received the news of the death of Benjamin Ekom as a shock to the Journalism profession in the State”.

 

Comrade Dogo Shammah described late Benjamin as a committed member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists whom he said is punctual to congresses.

 

“The death of Mr. Benjamin Ekom is like the fall of Iroko”,

 

Mr.Benjamin before his death was the National Secretary of Eggon Cultural Development Association.

 

The Information Commissioner rise eyebrow over the increasing waves of banditry and kidnapping as quite unfortunate for the State.

 

“The present administration under the able leadership of Governor, Abdullahi Sule is doing his possible best to safeguard the lives and properties of the people as well ensuring that the State is safe for investors”.

 

Calling on people of the State to be at alert at all times by exposing criminal minded people and strangers in their communities.

 

In a related development, The chairman of the Federated chapel, Comrade Usman Mohammed has commiserated with the family of late Benjamin Ekom.

 

He described the death as unfortunate for the Federated chapel, NUJ, Nasarawa State.

 

He described Ekom as an easy-going fellow whom he said was a trouble-free fellow.
