The erstwhile minister of Information, Labaran Maku said on Tuesday that maladministration, misapplication of resources, mass suffering, violence under Gov.Tanko Al-Makura administration are reasons that stopped him to attend the 20th anniversary celebration of the state in Lafia.

The defeated gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) stated this while speaking with newsmen in his country home, Wakama, Akun Development Area of the state.

It may be recalled that Oct.1, Maku did not attended the 20th anniversary of the state in Lafia but Sen.Abdullahi Adamu, Sen. Solomon Ewuga,Lt.Col.Bala Mohammed, the state past deputy governors, among others were in attendance at the occasion

Maku also listed non-prompt payment of workers’ salaries, incessant striking action which resulted in the loss of lives among the people of the state and under development are some of the reasons that nullified the joy of the celebration of the state at 20.

The former minister said that, instead of him to attend the anniversary, he and his family on Oct.1, pray fervently for God intervention in the administration of the state so as to improve on the standard of living of the people of the state and Nigeria at large.

“The present economic hardship, mass suffering, maladministration, misapplication of resources, violence, killing, sharing of blood across the state by this administration nullified the joy of celebrating the state at 20.

“So, I did not attend the anniversary of the state at 20 not because I did not appreciate or be grateful of the autonomy that has been given to us in which it has also given me the opportunity to serve the people of the state in various capacity.

“But how will I go and do parade, eat and wine in Lafia when workers have not be paid, when our children education is at stake because of incessant striking action and when people have been dieing of poverty, hunger because of mal administration, it is unfortunate.

“Instead of everybody especially those that came to power through the back door to weep for the souls of those that die and seek for forgiveness from God, and prayer is the most important thing that the state is needed at the moment to overcome its challenges, “he said.

According to him,” Since 2011 to date, the state has not witnessed peace, stability due to mal administration, bad governance as no ministry today in the state is functioning as expected as governance has been turned to the reign of one man and one family.

Maku also alleged that the N200m monthly security votes of the governor could be channeled into people oriented projects so as to provide job opportunity to the unemployed youths and improve on the standard of living of the people of the state.

He commended the founding fathers of Nasarawa state who worked to ensure the togetherness of the various ethnic, religion and political groups and urged the people of the state to shun ethnic and religion politics at all the time.

The former minister urged the people of the state to be law abiding, respect constituted authority and to live in peace irrespective of ethnic, religion and political affiliation for the overall development of the state and the country at large.

Responding to Maku’s outburst, Secretary of the All Progressives Change, APC in the State, Aliyu Bello who spoke to universalreporters247.com on phone, branded Maku as a frustrated politician, who lives in Isolation.

According to him he said, all the things Maku mentioned are all lies, he also said Nasarawa @20 is not about Al-Makura but about Nasarawa as a state, even as he said that nobody even know or notice that Maku was not at the event.
