A major political realignment has reportedly taken place in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the gateway to the nation’s capital, Abuja as about 5,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
This was coming ahead of the 2027 General election in the “Home of Solid Minerals”Nasarawa State.
The defectors, however, declared their support for the former Inspector-General of Police, retired Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The defectors announced their decision on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a political mobilisation programme held in Karu.
The event was attended by Hajiya Rukayya Muhammad Abubakar Adamu, Kwalliyar Lafia, alongside the Director-General of the campaign council, Hon. Abdullahi Yanmani, and other members of the campaign team.
The new SDP members pledged their 100 per cent support for Adamu, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and ability to provide effective Governance if elected Governor of Nasarawa State.
They also promised to mobilise additional supporters across Karu and other parts of the state in preparation for the 2027 election.
The development comes amid increasing political activities and realignments among major political parties in Nasarawa State as politicians and supporters position themselves ahead of the 2027 Governorship contest.
