The Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Suleiman Dikko averred that lucky Prison inmates in the state would reunite with their families at this festive period.
He stated this during a three-day routine tour of prisons formation across the state.
The C. J said the routine prisons visit was meant at decongesting prisons in the state.
Suleiman Dikko confided that the visit was to ensure justice to all inmates victims of circumstance who were wrongly Jailed.
He explained that the visit would afford some inmates who were wrongly detained the opportunity to reunite with their families.
He also warned Judges and Police Prosecutors to file proper charges before sending accused persons to prison, According to him, “I have seen cases where accuse persons are involved in civil matter, but the police would turn the case and file a criminal charges against them.
“Some accuse persons awaiting trial were even sent to remand in prisons on the charges that they belong to the gang of thieves,” he said.
He added that, he has decided to be proactive by reorienting and collaborating with other stakeholders in the judicial system to correct the wrongs going on.
He ordered the Area Courts Judges and Magistrates to discharge any accuse person arraign before their courts for belonging to the gang of thieves.
He therefore, ordered all judges and the prisons authorities to make sure all accuse persons awaiting trial are taken to courts whenever there cases are schedule.
Earlier, Godwin Ochepa, Deputy Controller In charge of Lafia Prisons expressed gratitude to the CJ for the regular visitation to prisons in the state.
He stated that Lafia Prison has a total of 546 inmates,out of which 97 are convicts while 449 are still awaiting trail.
He also explained that 265 inmates including two female were standing trail for allege roberry.
He appealed to the state government and other spirited individuals to support the prisons authority to enable them reform the inmates.
