The Jigawa state House of Assembly has promised to do all it best to ensure the provision of shelters for homeless and neglected children in the state.
The speaker of the house Honourable Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin made the promise when the coalition of Jigawa Women Resilience with the support of WRAPA paid an advocacy visit to him in his office on Tuesday.
He expressed his delight for the commitment made by the coalition towards improving the lives of poor and vulnerable particularly the women and children in the state.
The speaker together with three other members from the House Committee on Women’s Affairs received the team, assured to do his best and convince the Jigawa government to provide the shelters.
The lawmakers then encouraged the coalition to keep up the hard work and commitment to supporting women, assuring full support, and urged the Committee of Women Affairs to work closely with the coalition to ensure that these prayers are fully discussed and brought before the House for deliberations.
While presenting their prayers to the speaker, the chairperson of the coalition Hajiya Ummi Abba Jibril, appealed to the speaker to be a patron of the Coalition as well as urged for the release of funds to SARC and the establishment of more SARC across the state.
Other prayers include the provision of shelter that can serve as space for neglected and Homeless Children under the House Committee on Women Affairs, Inclusion of GBV survivors in empowerment programs, and Support for all the coalition activities.
