IMSU SUG Elects Leaders

The 2019 Student Union Government, SUG,election of the Imo State University,IMSU,Owerri, that took place at the campus premises on Friday,Aug.15th 2019,was indeed recorded as a historic milestone and even as it was generally described by all and sundry in the varsity as the most free,fair and transparent in all the history of the electioneering exercises of the institution over the years.

 

 

The election exercise however went very successful amidst tight security who were visibly armed during the polls.

 

Announcing the election results,the the IMSU 17th Republic Students Electoral Committee,SEC, Chairman, Comr.George Ekeoma,who officially pronounced winners of various SUG positions, announced Comr.Collins Arinze Oguike,aka Aristotle,the winner for the office of IMSU SUG President, with 715 votes, whereas his two presidential rivals,Comr.Prince Ugochukwu Igbonacho,aka De Prince,got 492 votes,and Comr.Chuks Raphael Ezeala,aka B.O.J,got 441 votes.

 

For the office of the SUG Secretary, Comr.Praise Tochukwu Nwoke,(Note) got 486 votes,while Comr. Chide Divine Ebimnamaonye,aka Office, got the 1,148 votes, and was duly announced winner.

 

Director of Environment, Comr.Chidubem Iroegbulam,aka Mr Nature, got 652 votes,while the winner, Comr. Emmanuel Tobechukwu Okehi,aka Gasper Green,got 963 votes,with the total votes of 1,166.

 

Director of Finance office,Comr.Chinedu Chrisogunus,aka Accuracy, got 634 votes, and Comr. Chris Tochukwu Nwahiri,aka Economy, got 982 votes, and was ably pronounced as the winner.

 

Comr.Daniel Chigozie Okanu,aka Smart,got 525 votes, and Comr. Excel Chukwuemeka,aka Excel,got 1,076 votes, and was announced winner as the Director of Welfare.

 

Further, for the office of the Director of Information, Comr.Christiantus Onyebuchi Obasi,aka IMSU Googgle, got 461 votes, out of 1,671 of the number of accredited votes, but Comr.Victor Chiazoka Duru,aka DuruV,got 1,123 votes, as pronounced winner.

 

More so, for the office of the Director of Sports,Comr.Victor Tochukwu Ojike,aka Standard, got 476 votes, while

Comr.Chisom Nathan Unachukwu,aka Nath,got 1,115 votes as the winner.

 

For the office of the Director of Transport, Comr.Moses Ahamefula Ekwerike,aka Taxify,got 325 votes, whereas Comr. Henry Ujunwa Tochukwu, aka G.wagon,got 1,277 votes as the winner.

 

Expressing his joy,the Dean Students Affairs, IMSU, Prof.Martins Uchenna Nwankwo,described the whole exercise as the most transparent, free and credible SUG polls in the history of the varsity.

 

He applauded the students especially those who contested for various positions and encouraged those who emerged as winners to think of the growth,peace,security a and quality results as leaders of the institution.

 

The University Don,Nwankwo,therefore boasted that the exercise which went very successful was his ability to shun interest from within and outside the school.

 

“We decided to jettison all kinds of political interest from any angel and allowed only registered and qualified students to participate in the SUG polls. Those who voted and those voted for were all IMSU products. The students voted for their various candidates of their choices. With the level of electoral discipline we have applied, our Students Union Govt.would surely do exploit. Days are gone when lecturers or school management interferes in the SUG affairs. We must allow them to do the right thing”, Prof.Nwankwo submitted.

 

He therefore called on the newly elected IMSU SUG leaders not to let institution down, rather they should project the university to higher levels both in character and learning.

 

Also speaking, the IMSU Students/Staff Legal Adviser,Prof.Eze Ayika,in his words, commended the students and the Electoral Committee Members for their fruitful and positive coordination towards the successful election exercise.

 

He further described the exercise as the most credible one,but enjoined the winners to carry the losers along to the actualization of the university’s aims and objectives of establishing the SUG.

 

The Varsity Legal mogul however advised the newly elected IMSU SUG president and his led executive members to think of anything that would make the institution succeed.

 

Prof.Ayika,called on the SUG leadership to fight continuously on the welfare of the students,but charged them to ensure they combat against cultism and other social vices amongst the students,even as he ceased the opportunity to wish them well during their one year tenure.
