Imo Police Parades 18 Youths For Alleged Assault On Jasper

The authority of the Nigerian Police Force Imo State Command has through the Commissioner of Police, Mr.Rabiu Ladodo, told some cross-section of Imo Journalists that the Command was on 29th August 2019, arrested 18 persons allegedly suspected to be involved in the public assault on the Chairman, Imo Recovery Govt. Assets and Property, Hon.Jasper Ndubuaku, at Sen.Rochas Okorocha’s Spibat Estate in Owerri.

 

Briefing Newsmen at the Imo Police State Headquarters Owerri, the Police Commissioner,CP,Ladodo,who spoke through the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO,Chief Godson Orland Ikeokwu,while speaking, unveiled lists of those youths arrested, which includes: “Ajike Ajali,Elichukwu Ogbonna,Isaac Musa,Paul Micheal,James Bitrus,and Ekpe Chukwuebuka.

Others are Prince Chinonyerem, Wisdom Augustine, Kabiru Ali, Peter Eke, Tochukwu Daniel, Chidiebere Eze, Madu Onyedikachi, and Joseph Onyedika, Emmanuel Eke, Uche Patrick, Ugochukwu Uzordinma, and Chidiebere Ikemenem”.

 

According to the CP, ” Some of the Exhibits recovered on them are Wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp”.

 

The Police Commissioner disclosed that the Command received a complaint that the Chairman of Imo State Recovery Committee, Hon. Ndubuaku was assaulted by Youths numbering about (50) fifty persons, even as he revealed that the CP, Rabiu Ladodo, ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, as such a letter was written to Hon. Jasper by the Police to come forward and volunteer his statement, which he did not honor.

 

“However, the Command went further to effect the arrest. The Police also wrote another letter to Hon. Ndubuaku, to come and identify the arrested suspects of which he refused to honour. On 2nd Sept, another arrest was made and he (Jasper) was equally invited in writing to come for identification of the suspects, but also failed to show up, for the third time”, Rabiu submitted.

 

The CP, who expressively spoke through the PPRO, maintained that the Command was not deterred and would not be deterred in the investigation, and today we are showcasing 18 suspects who took part in the Commission of the offense and efforts are being made to arrest other fleeing suspects.

 

“They shall, however, be charged to court as soon as feasible since they cannot be kept in police custody for too long. The Command, therefore, advises all good people of Imo State to conduct themselves according to the dictates of the law and avoid being used by mischief-makers. The Command shall continue to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties in Imo State”, he stated.

 

 

Meanwhile, some of the suspects who spoke to the press lamented that they were all innocent of the allegation leveled against them. “We were not involved in the alleged assault on Hon. Jasper, rather that they are ordinary laborers, civil engineers, and workers who are working in the area”.
