The leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Council, ably led by the State Chairman, Hon.Amb.Sam Udeh, (Ezeumuokorobia) was on last Wednesday, June 8th 2022 in Owerri, joined the road show rally against gun violence with the authority of West African Action Network on Small Arms, WAANSA, Nigeria as the observed Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence.
The event which attracted many members of NURTW witnessed large turn out of Imo youths who matched in solidarity from Imo Govt.House Roundabout off Wethedral Road Owerri down to Bank Road to IICC premises in Owerri, before they anchored at Imo Concorde Hotels & Casino, where a wonderful seminar was held.
Speaking to newsmen, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Comr. Udeh, expressed delight for the successful rally and awareness against gun violence.
Udeh therefore appealed to Nigerian youths to shun any acts, actions and activities that may link them to illegal possessions of fire arms.
The Imo NURTW State Boss, Udeh, however appreciated the youths, especially those who trooped out enmasse for their solidarity.
He thanked the youths for arming themselves with various banners and posters with inscriptions against gun violence in Imo, South East and in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the South East WAANSA Coordinator, Hon.Comr.Uzoma Iwuala,
expressed happiness with the heights of achievements so far recorded by WAANSA in Nigeria, Southeast and in Imo.
Iwuala, who spoke, unveiled that mandates of West African Action Network on Small Arms- Nigeria (WAANSA-NIGERIA), even as he described the platform as a National movement against gun violence, linking civil society organizations working to stop the proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons.
In his words, “WAANSA-NIGERIA supports efforts to make people safer by reducing demand for such weapons, improving firearm regulation and strengthening controls on arms transfers;
Through research, advocacy and campaigning, WAANSA-NIGERIA members are promoting local, national, regional and global measures to strengthen human security”.
