On Tuesday, Nov.23rd, 2021, at the State Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Owerri, the Union Chairman, Hon.Sam Udeh (Ezeumuokorobia) in a Press Conference with some cross-section of newsmen, expressed readiness to ensure that the union under his watch must be recognized as a reputable organization of men with integrity, honour, and respect.
Addressing journalists, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Udeh, unveiled his leadership blueprints to gentlemen of the press, noted that he is poised to offer quality service delivery for the growth of the union, to Imolites and Nigerians at large as a core unionist who knows the plights of motorists and commuters.
Udeh, who sat on the entourage of the leadership of Imo NURTW and some of the critical stakeholders present at the press conference, promised to uplift the image, vision, and mission of the organization in the right direction, even as he expressively echoed that he is passionate to ensure that the Shared Prosperity Government of Governor Hope Uzodinma succeeds.
He, therefore, applauded the giant strides of the 3R’s mantra which stands on Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery, as he revealed that the Union under his mandate shall in all ramifications drum supports to the government of the day.
“As road unionists operating in Imo State, we are from various localities in Imo. We must think of the good of our great State. We must as well embrace and support the government of the day. Governor Uzodinma, he has done extremely well on infrastructural developments. You can attest to it, we have seen Owerri wearing a new look in all the major roundabouts in Owerri Metropolis with traffic management in progress”, Ezeumuokorobia hinted.
“The era of incessant traffic gridlocks are history and the 3R Government of Governor Uzodinma in collaboration with the leadership of the NURTW are working synergy to ensure the restoration of sanity, decorum, and orderliness amongst road users”, Udeh submitted.
“I am willing and ready to partner with the media (journalists) in Imo to ensure unity, development, and progress of the union. As journalists, you are professionals. I am advising you to always engage in objectivity, investigative journalism is the key. Write good of our union and endeavour to balance your chronicles before sending it to the public”, Sam Advised.
He therefore strictly condemned the recent newspaper publication made on one of the state tabloids about extortion, even as described the sponsors of the said reportages as enemies of the union and joy-killers who do not want the unity of the organization.
Udeh, in his narratives on the newspaper publication, challenged the writers who claimed to be stakeholders of the union to come up with tangible evidence of extortion.
“The people you are seeing at the Council Headquarters are the original stakeholders and leaders of Imo NURTW. Any other group parading themselves as stakeholders are fake and faceless individuals that do not exist. Nobody is extorting us and we are not extorting anybody. But we are cordial in a mutual relationship with the government”, Ezeumuokorobia opined.
Some stakeholders of the union in attendance during the Press Briefing include:” The National Trustees led by Comr. Harbert Iwuala, the Assistant State Secretary, Comr.Charles Odogwu, the State Organizing Secretary, Emmanuel Mere, the Assistant Treasurer, Comr.Ikechukwu Emma Okereke, the State Vice Chairman, Comr. Anayo Acharaike, and the former Imo NURTW State Chairman, Comr.Izuchukwu Okebaram, aka Bora, and the hosts of other Imo NURTW stakeholders who graced the news briefing”.
Meanwhile, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Udeh, at the press conference, disclosed the union’s readiness to introduce and establish Mobile Courts aimed at checking traffic law defaulters and bringing them to book if they contravene the traffic in Owerri Metropolis.
