The Imo State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Rex Anunobi (Sokom), has enjoined all parastatals and unions under the Ministry of Transport to close ranks and cooperate toward delivering on the mandate of the Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The Commissioner stated this on Tuesday, March 6th, 2022, when he received in the audience the concessionaire of Imo Transport Company, ITC, Chief Emeka Duru, and the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) under the leadership of Hon.Chief Samuel Udeh (Ezeumuokorobia).
While receiving the ITC concessionaire who appeared for a performance audit exercise being conducted by the Ministry of Transport, Barr. Anunobi, explained that the exercise is not meant to witch hunt anyone but to reconcile revenues and payments made into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and under the revenue sub-heads of the Ministry of Transport that is being warehoused by the Imo Internal Revenue Service.
The Commissioner explained that the Ministry under his watch is determined to ensure effective service delivery to the public as well as enhanced revenue generation under a framework that aligns with the vision of the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma which will ultimately entrench a revolutionized transportation sector.
He described ITC as the leading parastatal in which the Ministry of Transport is duty-bound to ensure it provides efficient transport service to the people and also returned an improved revenue to the State.
While also addressing the Udeh-led NURTW, Imo State, that was led into the visit by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Chief Keneth Okafor, the Commissioner enjoined members of the Union to collaborate with the Ministry of Transport which according to him statutorily and administratively empowered to supervise their activities in the State.
According to Barr. Anunobi, all the appointees of the Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma are expected to work closely and purposeful to ensure that the greater vision of the Governor is delivered to the satisfaction of the people of the State.
While responding, the ITC Concessionaire, Chief Emeka Duru, promised to cooperate with the Ministry of Transport to ensure that its mandate which is strategically geared towards reviving the Company is achieved.
He promised to fulfill his financial obligations to the State as stated in the agreement under the close supervision of the Ministry of Transport.
Also speaking, the NURTW Chairman, Chief Samuel Udeh, said he has realized the need to cooperate with the Commissioner and Ministry of Transport which he admitted will ensure that the Union conducts its activities diligently and within the mandate of the Ministry of Transport.
The Permanent Secretary, Bimbola Ogunsanya, and heads of Departments witnessed the events.
