I’m Afraid For Nigeria If The Spate Of Impunity Continue In PDP, APC- Nasarawa PDP Governorship Running Mate

The People’s Democratic Party Governorship running mate in the 2019 election in Nasarawa State, Rt. Honorable Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo has advised the political class and the two major political parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  to save Nigeria’s democracy from crumbling by shunning impunity at all levels.

The two-time member Federal House of Representatives, representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency (PDP) disclosed this in an interview with selected Journalists shortly after a reconciliation meeting held at the state secretariat of the party in Lafia.

Honorable Onawo who also served as the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in 2003 says fairness in all ramifications would save the democratic process in the country,

He said impunity is the order of the day in the current democracy, adding that the ongoing would only spell doom to the entire process in Nigeria democratic process, calling for the retrospection of all political parties.

‘’What was lacking in Nigeria democracy today is the absence of fairness by political parties to either aspirants or candidates’’.

Speaking on the allegation of certificate forgery by the All Progressives Congress on the person of Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, and the grapevine going round that APC would petition the Governor over fake University certificate; Hon.Onawo expressed displeasure over the development.

He however reminded the opposition party in Edo state of how Godwin Obaseki ruled the state for four years under the APC without any hindrance by the PDP not until now that the incumbent Governor defeated to the PDP that some cabal are hell-bent to create turmoil.

‘’If Obaseki forged certificate as rightly depicts by the APC who served the state under his former political party, why are they threatening the same man on the same seat ‘stating that the unfolding is a clear case of impunity which he was denied ticket’’.

‘’I will not speak for Obaseki over certificate forgery but we should know that the University he graduated from said is their student’’.

While commenting on the ongoing corruption fight by the country’s anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission under President Muhammadu Buhari, the PDP Governorship running mate in the 2019 election confided that EFCC only exists during the era of the pioneer chairman, Nuhu Ribadu.

He further maintained that the pioneer chairman has gone with the glory of the commission and rather what was obtainable presently was a one-sided corruption fight against members of the opposition parties.

Commenting over the political rumpus that enveloped the Nasarawa state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party and the subsequent constitution of a caretaker committee, the former aspirant for Nasarawa South senatorship commended the members of the committee.

Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the assignment bestowed on the members whom he described as a conglomeration of men of proven integrity.

‘’It will be a bad thing for the committee to be given a small assignment and fail, and I’m hopeful that they will end well the way they started with good beginning’’.

Appealing to party loyalists to remain committed and resolute at all times. he however called on the youth to shun all forms of an act capable of jeopardizing their future.
