IGR in Imo:Ehime Mbano Lawmaker, Nduka Makes Case For Disable Communities

Dan Opara

In his feelings for service to humanity and divinity, the IMHA member representing Ehime Mbano, Hon.Prince Anthony Emeka Nduka, at the plenary presented a motion captioned “Excepting the Less Privileged and the Physically Challenged Persons in Imo State from paying all forms of taxes or levies”.

The Ehime-Mbano-born-lawmaker, Nduka, while speaking to newsmen shortly after his motion was presented, said, ” I want the Imo State Governor, Sen.Hope Uzodinma to look into the matter as it concerns the interests of persons living with disability. As you can see, some many of them are suffering especially in harsh period of Covid19″.

“Most of them are struggling to even eat. Many are fighting tooth and nail to survive. They are into small scale businesses to be alive. Offcourse, they are vulnerable people and we must try to assist them at all times”, Hon.Nduka noted.

He said, ” let the Governor fix or arrange them into categories. The govt.can categorised the physically challenged persons in the state based on their activities and make them happy”.

“So many of them are into various kinds of petty businesses to survive, yet the govt.are busy especially in Ehime Mbano disturbing them to pay taxes and other levies. It is not acceptable but we can assist them to live”, he cried out.

He said though some of the lawmakers in the House may have seen his motion and prayers as a means of reducing the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the state but it is not.

“Of the truth, most of the monies collected by the Revenue Drivers (Taskforce) from the Persons With Disabilities, PWD’s, in Imo State from across the 27 LGA’s does not even get to the accounts or coffers of the govt. That must be discouraged”, he disclosed.

Hon.Nduka, however described his motion as a good one and we must fight for the general interest of the PWD’s.

The motion is aimed at leveraging the Disable Communities who are into petty trading businesses.

“Some Garri sellers are being humiliated, disturbed and it is not accepted that was the main reason I rose against such alleged extortions”,the lawmaker hinted.

” Those less privileged persons that are struggling when they don’t pay, the task force agents will forcefully bounced at their goods (garri, oranges, cassavas) and destroys or spoil them”, Hon.Emeka wept.

He therefore called on the State Governor to quickly visit his motion as such if implemented will make the PWD’s feel positive impacts of the Shared Prosperity of the Governor.

The lawmaker, more so expressed optimisms that his prayers shall be answered in no distant time even as he described Gov.Uzodinma as a man with human feelings.
