The leadership of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) led by its Executive Secretary, Prof Bem Angwe visited the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase NPM, fdc at the Force Headquarters Abuja.
The group used the occasion to congratulate the IGP on his appointment. The Executive Secretary in his remarks maintained that their visit is aimed at re-strengthening the already existing relationship between the Nigeria Police and the NHRC, with a view to ensuring an effective criminal justice dispensation, anchored on the respect for human rights. The delegation also had in attendance Hon Beni Lar, Chairperson House Committee on Human Rights, Mr. Wale Fapohunda, member Governing Council NHRC amongst others.
IGP, in his response reiterated his desire to ensure the protection of rights of persons in the enforcement of law and order in the country, stating the setting up of monitoring teams to monitor Police conduct on highways and Police formations nationwide.
Similarly, IGP received a centenary certificate from leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). NANS exco maintained that the award is in recognition of IGP’s brilliant performance in his previous assignments before assuming the office of the IGP.
The Police boss used the occasion to admonish the young undergraduates to use their platform to preach abstinence from all forms of vices while promising to establish a robust Police/student relationship that will see an end to student hostilities in the country.
