It would be recalled that the National Secretariat of the Labour Party directed that Primaries be conducted in various States including Plateau state on the 5th August 2022 for the purpose of either filling vacant positions or replacing Positions whose Occupant would VOLUNTARILY WITHDRAW his interest to contest on behalf of the Party in the forthcoming General Elections.
Suffice it to say that where a replacement needed to be made, the exercise must be made with due consultation and consent of the Occupant of that Position and procedures must be fully exhausted in accordance with INEC guidelines as stipulated in the Electoral laws in respect to Replacement exercise.
The Plateau State exercise that was purported to have been conducted on the 5th August 2022 was not valid for the reasons that the Labour Party Gubernatorial position is not vacant and the occupant Hon. Ambassador Yohana Masgif has not died and neither has he voluntarily withdrawn to relinquish his position because no communication was made to the National Secretariat or INEC to that effect.
In view of the above, therefore the National Secretariat has rescheduled the exercise to allow for proper consultation with the Candidate should he wish to voluntarily withdraw to relinquish his Mandate to be replaced or contested for by interested Aspirants.
For the avoidance of doubt, the purported exercise that returned Prof Patrick Dakun as Labour Party Candidate was not graced by Constituent Authorities to validate it due to the fact that it has not met the procedures to certify the exercise.
Labour Party loyalists and teaming Supporters by this information need to be guided appropriately to await further notification on the rescheduled date and guidelines in order to conduct a hitch-free exercise that would be satisfactory to all parties involved.
The Labour Party Secretariat has at no time ordered the arrest of its Gubernatorial Candidate in connection to his alleged refusal to hand over or sign a document to suggest that he has relinquished or vacated his Candidature to be contested for.
Labour party thus enjoined Members to desist from truncating the good fortune the Party has on the Plateau as a last resort to salvaging the state from the woes it is currently undergoing.
The Party is committed to giving all and sundry a fairground that will lead to its victory in the forthcoming General Elections.
