Gunmen Kill Four Policemen In Separate Attacks In Kaduna

Yet to be identified gun men have killed four policemen in two separate attacks on a Divisional Police station in Kajuru, Headquarters of Kajuru local government of area and in Nungu community in Sanga local government area of Kaduna state.
Sources said that while three policemen died in the attack in Kajuru, two persons, including a police officer died in the attack on Nungu community in what appeared to be a renewed wave of attack in the state.

The gunmen who were said to have arrived Kajuru at about 11.30 pm armed with sophisticated weapons and launched an attack at the police station and freed all the suspected criminals being detained there.
Sources said that two of the policemen on duty died on the spot while the third one said to be a police woman died on the way to hospital.
It was learnt that some of the policemen on duty at the time of the attack had to disguise as criminals to escape the superior fire power of the attackers, while others ran into the bush.
A police men who survived told newsmen that the gun men stormed the police station in several vehicles and started shooting sporadically as they arrived the police station.
“We were not many and we couldn’t stand their sophisticated weapons. They killed three of our colleagues; an inspector and a sergeant were killed. Two three of our colleagues sustain serious injuries and were being rushed to the hospital in Kaduna. A female police officer died on the way to the hospital.
“They (gun men) came around 11:30pm yesterday (on Monday) and they operated for about one hour. It was the mobile police located in a different location that safe the situation; otherwise they would have started attacking residents of the town.
“If not for intervention of the mobile police, it could have been hell for the residents of the area. They were many, they came in vehicles, they released all the suspects being detained in the cell and some of us immediately removed our uniforms and pretended as if we were also some of the suspects in the cell. That was how we survived, others managed to escape into the bush.”
Spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, Aminu Lawan, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the attack, saying that the command was still assessing the incident and details would be made known later.
“We are still assessing the details and we will let you know when we are through” he said in a telephone interview.
There had been rumours of a letter allegedly written to the Kaduna state police command by unknown persons threatening to commence attacks on places like Sabon -Tasha in the Southern part of Kaduna metropolis and other areas in the southern parts of the state.
Kaduna state governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero who visited the scene condemned the attack, while challenging security operatives to intensify investigation and fish out perpetrators of the heinous crime.
He described the attack as unfortunate and assured residents of the area and the entire people of the state of Government readiness to tackle the activities of criminals, who are bent on creating tension in the state.
He called on the people to remain calm as Government was ready to provide all necessary support to security agencies with the aim of maintaining peace and security of lives and property of the people.
Gov Yero also condemned the reported attack at Nungu in Sanga local government area by bandits which claimed of two persons including a policeman after robbing some members of the community of their monies and other valuables.
The governor’s spokeman, Ahmed Maiyaki, quote the governor as expressing deep sympathy over the ugly situation saying “this ugly trend has to stop and we are committed to bringing the perpetrators of this attack to book by all means possible.”
He said that the governor condoles with the immediate families of the policemen killed in the attacks adding that “at such sad moments, our hearts and prayers are with the immediate families of those that died in the ugly incidence. We pray that the Almighty God repose their souls and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
While saluting the courage and patriotic zeal of the deceased policemen, the governor said “they died in active service to the fatherland while discharging their duties as defenders of the people. They died as heroes” and promised to provide assistance to all victims of the incidence while the State Government is to pay the hospital bills of those receiving treatment at the St Gerald Catholic Hospital in Kaduna.
