Gully Erosion Washes Away Federal Roads Linking North-East In Plateau

The Commissioner for Mineral and Environment, Alh Abdullahi Garba Abbas has described level of Erosion devastation in Plateau State as worrisome, as the heavy flooding has washed away Federal and minor roads within the capital.

Abbas disclosed that the federal roads linking Bauchi and North -East is almost cut off completely where motorists plying the road are struggling with the narrow washed gully erosion in Dogon Karfe ,Jenta Adamu,and Mangoro.

He said the recent down pour that lasted several hours has washed away farmland, houses and properties worth millions of naira forcing residents to relocate from the areas due to flooding.

According to the commissioner, the state government had earlier issued out warning to those who build on waterways on the danger of flood from June to August 2017 in some specific locations.

Hon Abbas complained that since the administration came on board no kobo was released to those affected by erosion except that the watershed management project (NEWMAP) is prepare to commence awareness campaign in the state.

He stressed that some local governments are slated to benefit from the world bank project of erosion control in Angwan Alheri, Jos North Gaza Biu, behind Federal ministry of Mines, Yakubu Gowon Dam Jos south ,one in Mangu market and Langtang North dam .

The Jenta Adamu and Mangoro in Jos North Local Government Area have been threatened by erosion which has caused serious accidents to the communities.
