Gombe Govt Purchased 60 Commercial Vehicles For NURTW

Ibrahim-Hassan-DankwamboGombe State Government has donated 60 commercial vehicles to National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Gombe State chapter which it said, was part of its effort to improve living standards of its people and ensure repaid economic growth in the state.

Executive Governor of the state Alh Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambno who presented the vehicles to the leadership of the NURTW at government house Gombe, expressed that, the gesture was coming at a right time considering the role played by the union in ensuring his victory at the just concluded poll.

He said, his administration is ready to work towards transforming the transport sector of the state, as well as working towards creating more opportunities for the people to be able to create wealth to support their families and become beneficial to the society.

Earlier, the state commissioner of finance, Alh Mohammed Hassan disclosed that, the empowerment programme tagged ‘Talba Empowerment Scheme’ was launched in November 2013 with a view to encourage the people to be more productive and contribute towards economic growth of the state. He added that, the programme was designed under condition of lease with a view to generate more funds that would be used to purchase more vehicles for other beneficiaries.

He explained that, each beneficiary would receive a vehicle at a subsidised rate out of which 40% would be paid by the government.

According to him, the state government has been able to touch many lives through its various programmes, and that it would continue to come up with more programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people.

In his remarks, the chairman NURTW Gombe chapter, Alh Gidado Mabani has disclosed that the first phase of the programme has generated over 170 job opportunities to members of the union, and that the second phase is also expected to generate more job opportunities to over 100 members of the union.

He however, thanked the state government for the programme, and assured of adequate utilisation of the vehicles to foster economic development in the state. Also assuring that, that union would continue to support government policies and programmes in other to enable it perform well.
