Eggon Lawmakers Raises Alarm over the Emergence of New Ombotse, others

Three lawmakers of Eggon extraction in the Nasarawa state House of Assembly has challenged the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to take a stitch in time to prevent an occurrence of a renewed communal and farmers clash in the state.

Hon. Muhammed Muluku (PDP) member representing Nasarawa Eggon East constituency has raised an alarm over the emergence of new ombotse (Eggon militia) group in the state.

The lawmaker called the state governor and security operatives to expedite action in curtailing another round of blood bath in the state, describing peace as a panacea for peaceful co-existence amongst the people of the state.

“All Ombotse are Eggon but not all Eggons are Ombotse, also speaking during the plennary, Hon Muhammed Alkali (PDP) representing Lafia East constituency supported his colleague, Hon Muluku’s position.

He called on Eggon leaders to as matter of urgency tackle the situation, also contributing, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Godiya Akwashiki (PDP) appealed to the chief security officer to take a drastic security measure.

Akwashiki also commended the governor for the proactive approach of visiting the crisis stricken area of Kokona where lives have been lost.

Hon. James Akoza representing Doma South (APC)  urged the state government and security agencies to address the crisis that erupted that led to the killings in Ekye, Doma south, while Hon Daniel Ogazi (APC) representing Kokona also raised alarm over sporadic violence that has engulfed his constituency.

The Speaker, Hon.Ibrahim Balarabe averred that the lawmakers resolved that the governor should take frantic steps by empowering the security outfits in the state towards combating the emergence of new Ombotse militia.

The Majority leader of the Assembly, Tanko Tunga declined comment over the recent killings of three students of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia as well the killing of two workers during the visit of the national body of the Nigerian Labour Congress, as he said the Assembly will brief the press later on the issue.
