Doma LG Boss Lures Hardworking Civil Servants With N200,000 Gift For Punctuality

Rabiu Omaku

The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa’ State, Honorable Jonathan Okuba Addra in a move to encourage punctuality in the Local Government, has lured civil servants present at their duty post with N200,000.

The Chairman was at the main entrance of the Local Government with police, Nasarawa’ Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), and was supported by the Staff Officer of the Local Government taking stocks of latecomers.

Shortly after the blockage of the main entrance, He addressed the civil servants and urged them to be prompt in the discharge of their duty.

Speaking on assumption of office on October 4, 2024, as the head of the Council, His topmost priority was workers, stating further that he will never support the nonchalant attitude of civil servants towards work.

He in addition expressed concern about why the Local Government Secretariat remains like Sodom even during working days, Monday to Friday.

Calling on the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to their members, especially those in the habit of ineptitude, to turn a new leaf.

“If we are Muslims, Christians, or pagans, our teachings did not encourage ineptitude amongst employees, Civil servants are at home doing nothing, and their salaries flow.

He described the habit of workers staying away from the office as an ungodly act that all the existing religions did not encourage.

Saying, I want to ensure that anybody coming from Lafia to Doma or going to Lafia from Doma to attest that the Local Government is a busy place.

“I’m given that present privilege information that any moment from today we will conduct data capture and screening exercises, and any staff who was not captured should blame his or herself and should consider themselves not a staff of the Local Government, He added.

The Council Chairman explained to those at the briefing his intention to deduct from the salaries of civil servants who are found not coming to work or coming late.

The Local Government Secretary, Abubakar Waziri, also joined the Union leaders, civil servants, and pleaded with the Chairman to forgive those late comers whose names were written down.

According to the Executive Chairman, “I thought the Local Government staff would use the opportunity to complain to me of a lack of light in their offices, a lack of chairs, and others”.

The Chairman warned staff of the Finance Department of revealing top secret information to the public. He, however, warned workers with the habit of cross-carpeting from one Department to another to get big salaries to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

He also shared his experience when he paid an inspection visit to three to four Primary Health Care where almost all the clinics had no staff on duty.

“I was at the police station, Primary Health Care. I met only 5 staff instead of 25 on duty. At Arumangye Primary Health Care, I met only 7 as against 20 staff. It’s quite boring”.

NULGE Chairman, Adams Ali Abu, in his response on behalf of civil servants of the Council, assured the executive Chairman that his members would be proactive henceforth.

“As members of NULGE, I want you to cooperate with the executive Chairman since he recognized us as the “engine room of Local Government businesses.
