The suspension followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance raised by the Majority Leader and member representing Isoko North, Mr. Tim Owhefere.
After deliberations on the issue, Speaker of the House, Mr. Monday Igbuya, put it to a voice vote and the lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsed the indefinite suspension of the council boss.
The House further raised an ad-hoc committee headed by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Oboro Preyor, to investigate the allegations against the council boss and report back to the House.
It would be recalled that Effurun, the headquarter of Uvwie, last weekend erupted in violent crisis as a result of controversial change of leadership in the council’s chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Meanwhile, Delta State Chairman of the NURTW, Mr. Ifeanyi Obi, has advised members of the union to desist from actions capable of causing breach of the peace.
Obi, who was reacting to recent Uvwie crisis said it was sad that some security operatives got involved in internal activities of the union which led to the crisis.
“We were surprised when we heard that some people tried to cause trouble in Uvwie using some security men, the situation is now normal and our members are working peacefully, we know the essence of having a peaceful state and we cannot be involved in any action which can lead to a breach of peace.
“Every member of NURTW understands our constitution and we are a peaceful people, anybody who does not obey our constitution will be discipline him in line with constitutional provisions.
“We are happy with our Governor, Dr. Okowa because he understands the way we work and he will work for Deltans, we are happy that he has also appointed a trusted person as the Commissioner for Transport ” Obi said.
