The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly faking the abduction of her two-month-old baby and selling the child for ₦1.5 million to a pastor in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
The command, led by Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed on Tuesday that the suspect had earlier reported that gunmen forcefully snatched her baby while she was travelling in a tricycle and pushed her out.
Following the report, operatives of the Effurun Area Command, led by the Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, swung into action, leading to the recovery of the baby.
Further investigation, however, revealed that the alleged abduction was staged by the child’s mother, who reportedly sold the infant to a cleric.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a WhatsApp message sent to our correspondent in Warri.
