Defamation: Ex-TETFUND Boss Threatens Court Action, Demands Apology In Bauchi

Prof._Mahmoud__ETF_3709016Former Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trustfund (TETFUND) Professor Mahmoud Yakubu has threatened court action against one Yalwa Dawa Chali with an option to retract his recent radio statement.

This was just as he demanded public apology within one week and describe the Radio programme as intended to drag his image to the mud anchored by Chali.

This was contain in a letter address to  Chali dated 14th August,2015 and made available to universalreporters247.com through An-Nur Chambers on the instruction of the former TETFUND boss.

The letter reads interalia; our client informed us that you made some defamatory statement against the person of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu the erstwhile executive secretary of TETFUND, his family and friends during GLO FM programme “Ga Fili Ga Doki which was aired on the 6th Day of August, 2015.

According to counsel to Yakubu, the statement intent and purpose were made in order to lower the reputation of those affected in the estimation of ordinary man in the society.

The counsel noted the Chali’s radio statements attracted public outcry against his client reputation describing the statements as ridiculous and aimed to honour the current TETFUND boss.

It stressed that Chali should retract his earlier statement in the same radio programme considering their long relationship as well as to write an apology letters to Maishanu family, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu and His friends which were not specified said, the letter.

” However, failure to heed to this request, we shall be left with no option than to institute court action to claim specific damages including apology in national dailies.

Speaking to Barrister Barau counsel to former TETFUND boss, he said, Chali did not specifically called his client name neither his family and friends, but his statements is describing his clients because they serve as TETFUND boss and are from Bauchi state.

When ask of proved of defamation against his client, Barrister Barau said, the issue of proved and evidence does not arise as only the court can determine if Chali failed to apologise as demanded.

Barau further noted that, his client deemed it fit to write to Chali on his client express directive if possible to help the party involve settle the matter amicably through family level.

Chali had told Newsmen that, he had never named anybody during his radio programme saying the letter he received from counsel to Yakubu was a fire brigade approach to smear his image and a dis-service to nation building.

“Honestly I did not name anybody during my radio programme, but am surprised to have receive a letter to retract my statements against the former TETFUND boss through his counsel Barrister Barau”

Chali urges those challenging the radio programme to carefully listen to it and have a rethink with a view to sheath their swords and embrace one another

It could be recalled that there has been allegations against unspecified former TETFUND boss and their agents for sponsoring the media against the current TETFUND boss with the intent to summarily ouster him from office

Meanwhile Bauchi State Muslim Youth Council has cautioned Muslim communities to shun their religious, ethnic and political difference to support Professor Sulaiman Elias Bogoro TETFUND executive secretary towards nation building.

The chairman Ustaz  Yakubu Usman chima said in Bauchi at the weekend in a prayer session organised in honour of Bogoro worried by the move of enemies of nation building.

Chima added that the Muslim youth council will not fold its arms watching credible public servants like Bogoro being intimidated along religious and ethnic sentiments even others have failed the nation while in office.

According to Chima same was said to have happened when even Bauchi state indigenes kick against Yakubu Dogara during the NASS election where he finally emerged as speaker in spite of odds.

He therefore urges Muslim brothers to embrace non-Muslims in tenants to the prophet’s teachings where he live and work with non-believers of any religions.
