‎Cycling: Team South Africa Overtake Nigeria On Medals Table

‎After Day 2 of the 2026 African Track Championships going on at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Team South have overtaken Team Nigeria on the medals table.

‎On Day 1, Team Nigeria cyclists had upper hand in mostly through the junior women who had four gold medals plus the one from the elite men to top with five gold, two silver and three bronze medals while South Africa had four gold, two silver and one bronze.

‎After the conclusion of events on Day 2, Team South Africa shot into the lead after garnering seven gold, three silver and two  bronze medals for a total of 11 gold, five silver and three bronze medals while Team Nigeria got one gold, three silver and one bronze to place second.

‎Team Algeria who were third on Day 1 with three gold and five silver retained their position after winning three silver and bronze each to now have a total of three gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.

‎Team Egypt who were fourth and behind Benin Republic with just three bronze medals on Day 1 surged forward on Day 2 with three gold, one silver and. four bronze medals to garner a total of three of three gold, one silver and seven bronze medals to occupy the third position.

‎Benin Republic retain the fourth position with the two silver medals and a bronze they won on Day 1 as their cyclists failed to win any medal on Thursday which was Day 2.

‎The competition continues on Friday which is Day 3 and would be concluded on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
