The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has declared that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the political leader of the party in Rivers State.
Morka, however, stressed that the authority to conduct and supervise party primaries rests solely with the National Working Committee of the APC.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Friday, the APC spokesman dismissed speculations surrounding the party’s internal processes in Rivers State, urging party members and the public to allow due process to take its course.
According to him, political activities often attract rumours, misinformation and false narratives, especially during election periods.
He said, “This is a political season, and it comes with a lot of discussions, some speculative and sometimes completely false.
People should allow the process to run its course so that the outcome will be credible and acceptable.”
Morka maintained that governors traditionally serve as party leaders in their respective states, insisting that the Rivers governor occupies the same position within the APC structure in the state.
“The governor is the leader of the party in Rivers State, just as governors are leaders of the party in their various states,” he stated.
Despite this, he clarified that governors do not control the conduct of party primaries, noting that the APC constitution empowers only the National Working Committee to oversee elections and nomination processes.
According to him, committees set up by the party for primary elections in Rivers and other states are currently carrying out their assignments and reporting directly to the party’s national headquarters.
He added that no governor has the authority to singlehandedly manage the APC’s electoral process, insisting that the party remains firmly in charge of its internal affairs.
