The crisis that ensued between the Chairman, Governing Council of the College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, and the Non-Academic Staff of the institution has taken another dimension as NASU insists that the Chairman has chewed more than he can and has to give way for developments in the school to thrive.
The Union in a statement signed by the executives on 15/01/2924 and made available to Universal Reporters insisted that the Governing Council Chairman is running the affairs of the College as a one-man army, Saying the Chairman was found of calling frivolous meetings with zero staff without anything tangible to show for.
The statement however described and reeled down some of the disturbing activities of the Chairman, as they said it is drawing the institution backward, instead of focusing on the core challenges confronting the College over the years, said the statement.
Other nagging issues that needed urgent attention of the visitor to the College, Governor Abdullahi Sule, like pending promotions of staff were thrown under the carpet by Ishaya Awotu, The Governing Council Chairman.
NASU, In the statement which was issued shortly after a congress, said the Chairman Governing Council is using his position to hoodwink and cause confusion which would metamorphose into anarchy in the College in no distance time if he continued in office.
In the press statement with a bold heading, A CALL FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CHAIRMAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, AKWANGA, he added that Ishaya Awotu, The Governing Council Chairman is using nepotism, divide, and rule as well as lacking a leadership charism and laisse faire qualities to move the College to an enviable height by uniting the College.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of the College threatened to shut down the institution if Ishaya Awotu continued in office as the Council Chairman.
NASU, In a statement captured, Resolution adopted at the end of an emergency meeting of the Union, a statement addressed to the executive Governor and the Honorable Commissioner Education and dated 15/01/2024.
In a resolution at the end of NASU meeting, The Union resolved that the State Government should replace the Governing Council Chairman, Ishaya Awotu because the NASU lost confidence in him.
The document which was jointly signed by the branch Chairman, Comrade Zewani Zamani, and Comrade Dauda John Jatau, branch Secretary.
The Union also reminded the visitor to the College, Engineer Abdullahi Sule to make sure that the official vehicle attached to him was retrieved.
NASU also reminded the Governor to foist the Chairman Governing Council, Ishaya Awotu to return all allowances he enjoyed during the period he overstayed in office or faced industrial disharmony.
