The Benue State Government has cautioned residents against entrusting political power to former Governor Samuel Ortom and ex-Attorney General Mike Aondoakaa, describing the pair as a “dangerous cocktail” that could spell disaster for the state if elected in 2027.
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Sir Tersoo Kulas, issued the warning on Friday during a press briefing at Government House, Makurdi. He was responding to recent media engagements by Ortom and Aondoakaa, in which both men accused the Alia administration of misgovernance.
According to Sir Kulas, the political histories and business records of the two men should disqualify them from seeking public office again.
He recalled that Ortom campaigned in 2015 on a promise to industrialize Benue at a time when his private firm, Oracle Business Limited, was allegedly struggling to pay staff salaries for more than five months.
He also pointed to Aondoakaa’s company, Mikap Nigeria Limited, producers of Miva Rice, which he said is “in a state of coma” and currently facing lawsuits from financial institutions.
“Anyone who cannot successfully manage a personal business cannot be trusted with the resources of an entire state,” Kulas stated.
The governor’s spokesman urged Benue people to be wary of politicians with “the mastery of treachery” who, he said, make attractive promises during campaigns only to disappoint the electorate once in office.
To counter the allegations of poor performance, Sir Kulas highlighted what he described as the Alia administration’s achievements across all 23 local government areas of the state. He argued that the current government’s record stands in stark contrast to the “failures of the Ortom regime” and Aondoakaa’s “abysmal management record.”
The press conference comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
