Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced the death of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, a former civilian Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tukur, an elder statesman, accomplished businessman and distinguished politician, died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after a brief illness.
Governor Fintiri described his death as a monumental loss to Adamawa State and Nigeria, noting that the late statesman made remarkable contributions to public service, business and national development.
In a statement issued by Humwashi Wonosikou, his Chief Press Secretary, the governor described Tukur as a courageous and visionary leader whose wealth of experience, wisdom and patriotism earned him a place of honour in Nigeria’s history.
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a colossus who made remarkable contributions to the development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.
His wealth of experience, wisdom and commitment to public service earned him a place of honour in our national history,” Fintiri said.
The governor said he would personally miss Tukur’s wise counsel and the depth of experience he brought to issues concerning Adamawa State and the nation.
“His passing has left a significant void that will be difficult to fill,” he added.
Fintiri extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, his friends, associates and the people of Adamawa State, urging them to take comfort in the late statesman’s enduring legacy of service and leadership.
In honour of Tukur and in recognition of his contributions, the governor declared three days of mourning across Adamawa State, during which all government flags will fly at half-mast.
Governor Fintiri prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannah Firdaus and give his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
