Alleged Shooting Of 25 Year Old Man, Murtala Gambo Sundumina To Death  By  NDLEA, Police Direct Thorough Clinical Investigation

The Jigawa State Commissioner Of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, MR  Aliyu Sale Tafida  has said that the Police under his command have resolved to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of one Murtala Gambo, as he meets with the Jigawa NDLEA Commandant for dialogue.

In a statement by the command spokesperson, he said; “The CP wishes to use this medium to inform the good people of Jigawa, especially Sundumina residents who witnessed the killing of their brother Murtala Gambo last week that an investigation into the matter has been started, and he promised to make the outcome of the matter publicly.

He urged law enforcement agencies to act in accordance not to overreact, as he charges them to act with the Standard Operational Procedures  (SOP) of the force and other extant laws principles guiding their overall conduct of the operation.

He warned that any Officers found acting contrary to their oath of office or behaving in a way and manner prejudicial to discipline will be strictly and personally held responsible.

He said the Police is a led agency as far as internal security is concerned, the CP called on all Sister Security Agencies working in the state to always report to the Divisional Police Offices before embarking on any Operations.

It would be recalled that, on 21st April, 2022 at about 0400hrs, one Salisu Gambo ‘m’ age 50yrs of Sundumina village Birnin Kudu LGA reported at the Birnin kudu divisional police station that, on the same date at about 0200hrs his son one Murtala Gambo ” age 25yrs of the same address was shot by the NDLEA personnel B/Kudu Zonal Office in Sundumina village.

On receipt of the report, the victim was rushed to Federal Medical Center B/ Kudu and admitted. Later on 24th April, 2022 at about 1600hrs, the victim was confirmed dead. 

The corpse was released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites in Sundumina village.

The deceased  Murtala Gambo Earliers alias Dan Alabo Whome, who was 25 years old before his death, died, heard the cry of a neighbor who was seeking help and on his way to rescue his friend Musa Dan, who shouted for help,  Murtala was shot dead by NDLEA officials.

Malam Salisu Gambo who is the elder brother of the victim said Murtala never participated in any criminal act he is a complete gentleman,  he also stated that he is an Islamic student, but that it is very unfortunate the NDLEA official used their weapons to kill his innocent brother.

Malam Salisu explained that at the family level they don’t have any power to take any action, but the district head of Sundumina and their member representing Jigawa North Central Senator Sabo Muhd Nakudu and the Jigawa state police command will also take the matter up to ensure that justice is done.

Salisu asked; “which kind of operation is the NDLEA operating in the midnight in which they stormed the resident of Musa Burga with heavy weapons which resulted in the death of his brother Murtala after shooting his neighbor who cried for help. 

Salisu explained that when they heard a gunshot from the NDLEA official and heard Murtala voice, quickly they went out to find what the issue is and it was there they met their brother lying in the pool of his blood at the roadside seeking help. He said further that as they reached the victim, they saw the drug’s official turning their vehicle moving to Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

Malam Salisu explained that the NDLEA officials were in Sundumina during the day at the market trying to arrest some persons, but they were not able to discharge their operation successfully because they were booed by some group of persons in the market.

He said; “as we saw our brother in that situation, we quickly informed the police, the district head and our senator through his PA Ziko and took the victim to the Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu and two days Murtala he died due to serious injuries on his stomach which he sustained as a result of the gunshot.

In his response, the council chairman of Birnin Kudu Alhaji Magaji Yusif Gigo said his council will investigate the issue and measures will be taken to ensure justice is done.

He added the council has constituted an investigating committee over the killing of Murtala Gambo Sundimina and if Murtala is found innocent the council is going to take legal action against NDLEA officials to prevent future occurrences to serve as a lesson to others who usually overact in the course of discharging their duty.

When contacted, the NDLEA deputy commandant said they are aware of the issue, but only the commandant has the detail to brief the press Mr. H Ugwuke explained that the state command is not on seat.

He explained that their response will be made available, but at the time of filling in this report, NDLEA is yet to respond.
