The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has again waded into the recent impasse that ensued between the Executive and the Legislative Council of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who is the member representing Doma South Constituency, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim read the resolutions after the committee meeting with Doma LG Chairman, Architect Ahmad Sarki Usman with all Councillors of the Council.
Hon. Musa said for peace and development to be achieved in Doma Local Government Area, there must be effective synergy and mutual understanding between the two arms of Government in the area.
The Committee on Local Government directed the legislative arm of the LG to go back and hasten the process of passing the 2024 budget to allow for the implementation of new projects and the completion of ongoing projects in the area.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has directed the Executive and Legislative arms of Doma Local Government Council to shelve their swords and work in synergy for the overall development of the area.
The House also directed the Doma Local Government Legislative Council to pass the Local Government budget immediately to allow for provisions of social amenities for the people of the area.
The directive was contained in a resolution reached after the House intervened in the crisis
He admonished the Chairman and the Councilors to put the interest of the Local Government and the people above their interests for peace, progress, and development of the area.
The Council Chairman while n responding to questions from Journalists after the closed-door meeting with the committee, the Chairman of Doma Local Government Area Arc. Ahmed Sarki Usman appreciated the assembly for its quick intervention and promised to work with the resolutions for peace and development of the area.
He said the functions of both the executive and the Legislative were spelled out, there is no reason for misunderstanding between them.
The Chairman said the resolutions would go a long way in ending the long-time crisis and would foster unity, understanding, and peace among the two arms of the government as well as enhance development in the LG.
He called on the people of the area to live in peace and harmony with one another irrespective of their ethnic and religious backgrounds.
It would be reported that the executive and legislative arms of Doma Local Government Area have been at a loggerhead for years resulting in allegations and counter-allegations of abuse of power which saw the State House of Assembly intervening.
Despite the previous intervention, the crisis rocking the Local Government is not yet over and this was the reason why the chairman of the Local Government, Ahmed Sarki Usman petitioned the Doma Local Government Legislative Council to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Aside from disharmony between the executive chairman and the councilors, the crisis resulted in the no passage of this year’s Appropriation Bill for Doma Local Government Area.
