A group under the aegis of Concerned Youth of Afukoh Community in Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau State on Monday protested over the lopsided selection of few individuals to deal with them by the Provost Federal College of Medical Science and Technology Jos.
The youth in their group took to the college gate to register their displeasure as aggrieved members of the Afukoh Community that was neglected as the host community of the college.
Speaking to Journalists at the venue of the protest, spokesperson for the concerned, aggrieved, and marginalized youth of the Afukoh Community,Mr. Agwom Azi Magaji and Abok Ajik all lamented that the Provost Federal College of Medical Science and Technology, Jos, Dr. Sunday Etukudoh has connived with some few persons in their community to favor some session all in the area of social responsibility accruing to them and the immediate family.
According to the statement, these few community leaders include one Ishaya Itself and Azi Peter Aware, and others were fingered as the alleged connivance.
They are blaming them, saying these individuals are working in cahoots with the Provost and betrayed their people by giving the few individuals junior staff and they corner it to give it to their personal family members.
Magaji stressed that the larger members of the community are now suffering injustice perverting to them through selfishness and marginalizing them.
He explained further that since the movement of the college to the permanent site what they’re experiencing is that lack of infrastructural deficit the few facilities are without toilet equipment and the staff practice open defection which this exercise is posing grave danger to the lives of people.
Agwom Azi, is now calling on the health expert to embark on research or beam their network in knowing the implication of open defecation to the host community of Afukoh.
“We want the institution to borrow a leaf from the Jos University Teaching Hospital and the college of Medicine of the University of Jos.
” As a health Training institution, the college should have been setting the pace for others to emulate. We will continue to air our grievances to all the relevant authorities to come to our rescue,” he said.
He appealed to the federal government to liberate them from the bondage of Etukudoh and his cronies in the community that we have mentioned.
Agwom Azi decried that the recent employment opportunity the Provost gave these few individuals be put to a halt forthwith. Any employment and social responsibilities the college wants to embark upon, the youth be consulted.
