Adamawa State has launched an ambitious electric mobility initiative aimed at accelerating clean transportation, expanding renewable energy access, and stimulating economic growth through local manufacturing and green infrastructure investment.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri unveiled the initiative in Yola on Monday, announcing plans for the procurement of 1,000 electric tricycles for youths as part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation and job creation.

The project, developed in partnership with A4&T Group, positions Adamawa among the emerging subnational players driving Nigeria’s transition toward renewable energy-powered mobility solutions.

Speaking at the launch, Fintiri said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to building a modern economy anchored on innovation, clean energy, and private sector collaboration.

“This is the beginning of a transformational journey that will redefine energy access, transportation, and economic opportunity across Adamawa State,” the governor said.

The partnership between the state government and A4&T Group originated from discussions at the 2025 Investor Roundtable organised by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), where Adamawa showcased investment opportunities in renewable energy and infrastructure development.

Under the collaboration, more than 6,000 households across several local government areas have already received Solar Home Systems, improving electricity access for homes and small businesses.

A key highlight of the initiative was the unveiling of electric tricycles assembled locally in Adamawa by Sparrow Mobility Ltd, the e-mobility subsidiary of A4&T Group.

The assembly plant, located in Yola, is expected to support local capacity development, create jobs, and deepen technology transfer in the state.

Fintiri said the state’s long-term goal is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower transportation costs, and shield residents from rising fuel prices while promoting environmentally sustainable growth.

The governor added that the partnership would extend beyond transportation into solar power projects, mini-grid development, and broader energy solutions for underserved communities and businesses.

Also speaking, Ayodeji Ademilua, Chief Executive Officer,A4&T Group, say the project was meant to open up new opportunities across the clean energy value chain, including vehicle maintenance, battery management, charging infrastructure, and component supply.

He reiterate the company’s commitment to introducing an affordable green transportation system that would improve mobility, reduce transportation costs, and significantly lower carbon emissions across the state.

According to him, the company has partnered with financial institutions to provide flexible financing options for transport operators and residents interested in acquiring the electric vehicles.

“In the years ahead, we intend to deepen our investments by backwardly integrating our operations, gradually producing more components locally and utilizing local materials and talent, within Adamawa State and Nigeria.

“Our long-term goal is to achieve up to 90% local value chainsourcing for these electric vehicles.

” This means more jobs, more skills transfer, more industrial development, and more economic empowerment for the people of this state.

“The initiative also includes plans for charging stations and battery-swapping infrastructure to support operations and improve efficiency across the transport network.”

Ademilua further stated that the initiative is a significant step in Adamawa’s efforts to attract green investments and position itself as a regional hub for renewable energy and sustainable mobility solutions.
