Governor Hyacinth Alia has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing free education to all children in Benue State, from Basic One to Nine. The Governor made this declaration at the inaugural Benue Basic Education Summit, held at the College of Health Sciences, Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.

Governor Alia’s announcement is a testament to his administration’s dedication to improving the state’s education sector. With over 9,700 teachers recruited, salaries consistently paid, and the harmonized retirement age for teachers implemented, the Governor is determined to ensure that no child is left behind.

The Governor’s decision to make Basic One to Nine education free aims to provide opportunities for the poor and vulnerable, laying a solid foundation for future leaders. He called on parents, traditional and religious leaders, and stakeholders to support his administration in enforcing compulsory basic education.

Governor Alia emphasized that the future of Benue depends on its young people, and it is the responsibility of leaders to prepare them for it. He urged all stakeholders to join hands in making education a priority.

The Governor launched the “Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Un-enrolled Pupils (BRACE-UP)” project, aimed at ensuring every Benue child is enrolled, retained, and empowered through quality basic education.

BRACE-UP will mobilize community leaders, parents, and teachers to identify out-of-school children, create flexible learning pathways, and track each learner’s progress.

Governor Alia promised to ensure catalytic funding and policy regulations that mirror the UBE Act, prioritizing compulsory, free basic education for all Benue children.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) presented Governor Alia with a GOLDEN AWARD FOR EDUCATION AND TEACHER FRIENDLINESS, recognizing his administration’s efforts in revitalizing basic education.

In response, Governor Alia promised to pay a month’s arrears to retired teachers, assuring them of his commitment to their welfare.

As Benue looks to the future, Governor Alia’s vision for education is set to transform the state. With initiatives like BRACE-UP and his commitment to free education, the state is poised for a brighter tomorrow.

Governor Alia’s words, “You have taught me and I won’t cheat you,” reflect his dedication to the people of Benue and their future.

Benue’s education sector is on the cusp of a revolution, driven by Governor Alia’s vision and commitment. The future looks bright for the state’s children, and the world is watching.
