Subsequent upon the arrest and arraignment of one Baffa Haruna Turaki (M), aged 40 of Kasuwar Kuda Quarters, Hadejia LGA, by personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command before a Presiding Magistrate of Jigawa State Mobile Court, Mannir Sarki Abdullahi, on Wednesday, 8th day of May, 2022 on a suspected case of Adulteration of Fertilizer intended for sale contrary to Section 184 of the Jigawa state Penal Code Law, the suspect pleaded guilty and sentenced as follows:
1. Six months in custodial facility or fine option of N80,000.
2. Three weeks in custodial facility without fine option.
3. Bond to be of good behavior, and if breached, to serve three months in custodial facility.
4. The exhibits recovered were seized and disposed by the court.
Baffa was arrested on Saturday, 4th of June, 2022 when he was about to sale an adulterated bag of NPK fertilizer at the Agricultural produce and grains market in Hadejia and was discovered to be mixed with sand.
Investigation led to the discovery of seven (7) additional bags of similar adulterated fertilizer in his possession.
He confessed to be making the said fertilizer in his house and selling to unsuspecting members of the public at its original market value of N16,000 per bag.
