You Lied: TCN Tells AEDC Abuja Power Shortage Caused By Low Generation, Not Transmission Line Trips
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has rejected a claim by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)
that the reduction in its power allocation was caused by the tripping of 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.
AEDC had, in a statement dated August 26, 2026, informed customers of electricity supply constraints and attributed a drop in its allocation from about 641MW to 314MW to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying the Federal Capital Territory.
However, TCN described the claim as “inaccurate and misleading”, saying the reduction in AEDC’s allocation was caused by low power generation on the national grid.
But TCN has rejected AEDC’s explanation, describing the claim that its transmission lines tripped as “inaccurate and misleading.”
“Contrary to the information contained in AEDC’s publication, all 330kV transmission lines within Abuja Region are currently in circuit,” TCN said.
“TCN therefore wishes to clarify that the reported reduction in AEDC’s allocation and the resultant load shedding across its feeders cannot be attributed to the alleged tripping of TCN’s 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region.
“We reiterate the importance of accurate and clear information dissemination.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria remains committed to efficiently transmitting available bulk electricity across the nation and maintaining the stability, reliability, and integrity of the nation’s transmission grid,” it said.
