Yobe State Government has announced the closure of all schools in the state, in order to prevent more attack by Boko Haram. The closure of the schools in the state, came just a day after the Islamic insurgents killed over 30 students in a government secondary school located in Mamudo which is located in Potiskum local government area of the state.
The governor in a press statement signed by his spokesman, Abdullahi Bego, said that the decision was taken by Governor Geidam’s after visiting Potiskum General Hospital, as he has also directed that all schools in the state be closed down from Monday 8th July 2013 till a new academic session begins in September.
“The measure is to allow the state government in collaboration with the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) and community leaders to evaluate and evolve better and additional strategies that would ensure the safety and security of students and their teachers,” the governor said”
Gaidam also called on the federal government and military authorities to order the restoration of GSM service across the state, according to him, the lack of GSM service has prevented patriotic citizens who have hitherto been collaborating with security agents from reporting suspicious movements in their neighborhoods.
