The political atmosphere in Nigerian politics is gradually charged with serious alignment to create a conducive space for the actors ahead of the forthcoming congresses.
However, the zoning arrangements in Nigeria were allegedly jettisoned by the APC, which produced a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 general elections, with Tinubu and Shettima emerging.
The North-Central geopolitical zone appeared to be sidelined completely, especially the Christian political bloc, so the President wants to effect a correction to balance it.
This medium gathered that President Bola Tinubu tactically influenced the resignation of the APC chairman, Umar Ganduje to correct a political imbalance.
A source privy to this development disclosed that President Tinubu has been insistent that Ganduje has to resign to correct the political imbalance in the North Central.
“Ganduje was forced to resign to allow for the party to revert to its zoning formula”, a presidential source revealed Friday evening.
According to the zoning formula, the North Central should have produced the National Chairman instead of the North West, from where Ganduje hails.
According to reliable sources, President Bola Tinubu enforced the resignation of the APC boss on Friday.
Ganduje had repeatedly said he was not going to resign from the position despite the repeated calls, especially by the North Central, for him to vacate the seat.
The source said: “The President is insistent that in the countdown to the 2027 elections, the party must enforce all the rules, and one of them is the zone that should occupy the seat of the national chairman.
“Ganduje has been told pointedly that he must resign by the President. And he has done just that.”
