Unknown Gunmen Killed Family Of Eight In Jos By Yakubu Busari, Jos
No fewer than eight persons were feared dead by unknown Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Sunday attacked and killed a 62 year old retired Police officer Baba Jacob Wangte and seven members of his family in Sabon Layi Areas of Barkin Ladi Local government of Plateau state.
An eye witnessed revealed that the seven Members of the family that were killed are related to the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt. Istifanus Caleb Mwansat who is also currently representing Pankshin South in the state Assembly.
The 62 year old man was killed with his Wife Mrs. Ruth Jacob 50 years, their son Katok Jacob 27 and his wife Rachael 21 years and three of their grandchildren also was called.
Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local government council Hon. Emmanuel Loman confirmed the attacked yesterday in Jos, said the attack occurred around 10pm on Sunday night where families of seven were killed.
He said, ” The attackers started since last week in some villages by the Fulani’s and continue again yesterday around after 10pm where a family Baba Jacob and seven members of his family were attack by the same Fulani’s and killed the entire family”
Loman disclosed that a Retired Police officer is Mupun By tribe from Pankshin Local government of the state and has been resident in the locality for a long time after his retirement and wonder why such a big family could be killed in one day without the security arrest a single person for the act.
According to the chairman there was a demonstration on Sunday by the women of the Local government to express the grievances on the attack that took place in some villages where the villages were busy defending themselves in their homes when the men of the Special Task surrounded them and collected their weapons and allowed the Fulani’s to go free without been arrest.
“The women were angry when two of their children were apprehended and the women felt bad that the instead of the STF to arrest the attackers but arrested the innocent youths who were defending themselves”.
Loman said he has informed the authorities concern to take action on the behaviour of some of the STF members in Barkin Ladi Local government Areas and condemn the situation, saying the attackers are well known to some members of the STF in the locality who are ben to breach the peace been experience in the Local Government of the state.
