Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North Senatorial District has condemned the attacks on the All Progressive Congress members and other various groups during the stakeholders meeting ahead of the APC ward, local government and state Congress as well as the party convention.
Senator Hunkuyi who made this known in respect of the attack by thugs during the meeting he was chairing at the Nigerian Union of Teachers Teachers End-Well Hotel in Kaduna said Governor Nasir el-Rufai and his political adviser, Uba Sani are responsible for the attacks that left not few than 5 people seriously injured and hospitalised.
Hunkuyi who said he has forwarded his complaint to the commissioner of police in Kaduna and other relevant authorities affirmed that arming youths for the purpose of attacking political political opponents is alien to the state and people of Kaduna hence the need for all lovers of Kaduna state and Nigeria to rise against this barbaric and unwholesome style of leadership.
“I have been in Kaduna politics for the past 30 years and what is happening under Nasir el-Rufai government in arming young people for the purpose of attacking political opponents and innocent people is alien and strange in Kaduna politics” he said.
Thugs allegedly loyal to Uba Sani, political adviser to el-Rufai and led by one Sani Master at about 3pm on Sunday attacked the venue of the APC stakeholders meeting and injured several people.
Eye witnesses said shortly after the attack, the hoodlums, the attackers were saying “say el-Rufai for governor 2019, say Uba Sani for senator zone two 2019.”
On why police could not give protection, it was also observed that the efforts of the organizers of the meeting to get some police men available failed as they were told that the commissioner of police in charge of the state was not around. Appeals to the DPO in charge of the area to provide at least 10 policemen to provide security also failed as he reportedly told them that he has not gotten order from above to release any policeman for the meeting.
Hunkuyi said the purpose of the meeting is to sensitize and educate the people ahead of the APC ward, local government and state congress as well as national convention.
Hunkuyi who visited Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital Kaduna and Garkuwa Specialist Hospital along Sultan Road, Kaduna said all his efforts is to deepen and strengthen democracy in the state.
He said hooliganism and barbaric style of governance of el-Rufai and his aides who are beneficiaries of democracy cannot stop him.
Hunkuyi has kicked against the allegation of planned selection of delegates through affirmation and continued to sensitize the All Progressive Congress ( APC) members across the three zones against such plans, insisting that Congresses must hold at the ward, local and state levels according to the party constitution.
Senator Hunkuyi last Thursday held such sensitization meeting with the people of Kaduna South senatorial district and got a declaration of support in his favour come 2019. He also reiterated his stance to send Governor Nasir el-Rufai according to him ” to where he belongs” while interacting with members and stakeholders from the local government areas that makes the Kaduna central zone.
The Senator while addressing the mammoth crowd at the NUT End well hotel venue of the meeting, also averred that governor el-Rufai has failed the people and the mandate given to him in 2015.
According to the senator” there are perfected plans against ensuring that congresses do not hold to elect delegates through election but to read out names to be affirmed as delegates by the government in power.
” For this reason this meeting has been conveyed to inform you of such plans and to inform you that my mind is already made to contest the position of governorship come 2019 and send Malam Nasir el-Rufai to where he rightfully belong.
“This meeting is also aimed at informing you, plans by the government not to allow Congresses where delegates will be elected but to bring out names written from government house to be affirmed as delegates.
” Don’t allow yourselves to be use and dumped again, let’s join forces together to send packing this government of the state who has metted injustice to people and have no iota of regard to peoples right and feelings”.
He urged stakeholders of the party from the xone to constitute committee members of unquestionable characters and bring out trustworthy person to contest as Ward, local and state delegates, assuring that he will support such contestants accordingly.
Those that spoke commended the senator for yielding the call of the people to contest the number one seat in the state and gave their supports to make the dream became a reality.
