Thompson Oliha Ex Super Eagles Midfielder is Dead

Former Super Eagles midfielder and a member of the 1994 African Nations Cup winning squad Thompson Oliha is dead. As gathered until his death, Oliha was among the coaches at the Kwara State Football Academy in Ilorin.


The late Oliha who is aged 44, was on the bench yesterday morning when Kwara Football Academy (KFA) boys played a team from Mali.

However, he was said to have complained of Malaria and was taken to an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.

However,  early hours of Sunday he died and his body has been deposited the mortuary.






The late Oliha was born on the 4th of October 1968 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and he began his professional football career with Bendel Insurance from 1985 to 1987 and also Iwuanyanwu Nationale from 1988-1991 and then he continued his professional career abroad where he also starred for Africa Sports of Cote d’ivoire from 1992 to 1993 and also Maccabi Ironi Ashdod F.C.  of Israel from 1993 to 1994 and finally  Antalyaspor of Turkey from 1994 to 1995.


Oliha made a total of 31 appearances for the full Nigeria national football team, scoring two goals. He made his international debut in 1990, in a game against Senegal and made his last appearance at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, as a late substitute against Italy. Oliha also played at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship.
