The historic actualization of the long-anticipated Zaar Chiefdom has continued to yield significant dividends, ushering in a new era of lasting peace, strengthened unity, and renewed socio-economic progress across Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
For decades, communities within these areas yearned for a traditional institution that truly reflects their identity, fosters inclusiveness, and serves as a rallying point for peace and development. Today, that aspiration has been fulfilled by His Excellency The Executive Governor Of Bauchi State Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON Kauran Bauchi Ghbzi Zaar, as the Zaar Chiefdom stands as a symbol of reconciliation, collective identity, and shared destiny among the people.
This position was strongly reaffirmed by Imam Faizu Ado, Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Tafawa Balewa, during the maiden Iftar (breaking of fast) hosted by His Royal Majesty, the 1st Paramount Ruler of the Zaar Chiefdom, Brigadier General Marcus Kokko Yake (Rtd), at his palace in Pusji.
In his remarks, the Chief Imam described the creation of the Chiefdom as a divine intervention and a turning point in the history of the area. He emphasized that the relative peace, stability, and improved inter-communal relations currently being witnessed are clear indicators of the positive impact of the Chiefdom.
According to him, opposition to the creation of the Chiefdom did not reflect the will or interest of the general populace, but rather that of a few individuals. He noted that the overwhelming majority of the people are today enjoying a new sense of belonging, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
He further made a passionate appeal to all displaced persons from Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro communities to return to their ancestral homes, assuring them that the atmosphere is now safe, inclusive, and conducive for resettlement and productive living. He expressed optimism that with continued unity and responsible leadership, the scars of past conflicts will gradually give way to sustainable peace and development.
The Iftar gathering itself was a remarkable demonstration of interfaith harmony and unity, bringing together Islamic scholars, Christian leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and government officials under one roof. The atmosphere of mutual respect and shared purpose reflected the very essence of the Zaar Chiefdom’s vision.
Prominent Muslim leaders present at the event commended His Royal Majesty, the Gung Zaar, for his exceptional leadership style, which they described as inclusive, visionary, and people-centered. They noted that his commitment to fairness, justice, and peaceful coexistence has significantly contributed to stabilizing the area and restoring confidence among the people.
In the same spirit, Pastor Amos Sila, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bogoro Chapter, speaking on behalf of the Christian faithful, expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (CON), Kauran Bauchi, for demonstrating courage, political will, and foresight in actualizing the Zaar Chiefdom. He described the Governor’s action as a bold step that has not only addressed long standing concerns but also laid a solid foundation for enduring peace and unity.
He further commended the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Brig. Gen. Marcus Kokko Yake (Rtd), as the 1st Gung Zaar, noting that his leadership has proven to be a unifying force across religious, ethnic, and political divides.
District Heads and other traditional title holders from various parts of the Chiefdom and it’s neighborhoods unanimously described the development as historic, transformative, and unprecedented. They pledged their continued loyalty and support to the Paramount Ruler, assuring him of their commitment to consolidating peace, strengthening traditional institutions, and promoting grassroots development.
In his address, His Royal Majesty expressed deep appreciation to all dignitaries and community members for honoring the invitation. He reiterated his commitment to fostering peace, unity, and development across the Chiefdom, emphasizing that sustainable progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
He urged the people to continue to embrace tolerance, dialogue, and respect for one another, regardless of differences. He also called on farmers and herders to maintain harmonious relationships and adhere strictly to the rule of law, especially as the farming season approaches.
Highlighting the economic importance of agriculture, the Paramount Ruler stressed that both crop farming and livestock rearing remain critical pillars for food security, job creation, and economic stability within the region. He therefore encouraged all stakeholders to work collaboratively in ensuring a peaceful and productive farming season.
The well attended event featured the presence of key government officials, including the Executive Chairman of Bogoro LGA, Hon. Surveyor Lawi Yakubu Sumi; Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada, Member representing Bogoro Constituency at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Political Associates, Security heads across Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro LGAs, Council Executives, Religious leaders, Traditional rulers, Youth representatives and other critical stakeholders.
The gathering not only marked a significant religious observance but also served as a powerful platform for reinforcing unity, building trust, and strengthening the bonds of peaceful coexistence among the people.
Indeed, the Zaar Chiefdom continues to stand as a shining example of how inclusive leadership, cultural recognition, and collective will can transform communities, restore hope, and pave the way for a more peaceful and prosperous future.
