Tension In Nasarawa As Youth Accuse AEDC Of Vandalising Transformer, Resist Military Brutality

There was pandemonium in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital at the weekend as protesting youth at Angwan Maina resisted an arrest of their leader by men of the Nigeria Army

At about 9:45 a.m. youth in their hundred including elders barricaded the Lafia-Doma Federal highway over the vandalization of the electricity transformer opposite, The Correctional Service along Doma Road.

Our reporter who was at the scene saw youth blocking the road leading to Rimi Uku stopping vehicle movement.

The youth accused Abuja Electricity Distribution Company of vandalising armour cable, they also accused AEDC of low shading, this scenario foisted those at the Lafia District office to take to their heels.

Despite swift intervention by the military to address the upheaval, the protesters failed to deaf ear.

An official of the Correctional Service who pleaded anonymity said the authority of the Correctional Service and the inmates are not safe because some people are waiting for sly opportunities to break into the facility.

Adding that is the reason why the Army was deployed to the scene of the protest, the protest turned rowdy as youths exchanged banters with armed soldiers and warders on alert.

All efforts by Universal Reporters to speak to officials of AEDC proved abortive as an insider revealed that the Public Relations Officer (Cooperate and Information Unit) has been merged with one of the units and for this reason anybody that wants clarification should go to the headquarters in Abuja.

He further averred that AEDC has zonal Managers in the Southern Senatorial district of the State

The protests marred the Lafia business Area with customers accusing AEDC officials of erratic power supply and vandalization of their electricity installation along Mararaban Akunza substation meant to generate light for Lafia town and the Federal University, Lafia.

it was also gathered that recently, Vandals destroyed the transformer at Command Secondary School, Lafia.
