Shut Down Minna-Bida Road Totally From Articulated Vehicles: Niger State Lawmakers Urges Executive Arm Of Government

Niger State house of assembly has called on the executive arm of government to rescind the decision to allow articulated vehicles to transit Minna-Bida road.

The call was made under matters of urgent public importance by Hon. Barr. Bello Ahmad member representing Agwara constituency during sitting number 82 at the state house of assembly complex Minna.

Hon. Barr. Bello Ahmad notes that Minna-Bida road has become a death trap for motorist plying the route. Adding that the articulated vehicles who ply the route in there hundreds, carrying heavy content from the southern part of the country to the North, have dilapidated the road, making journey for smaller vehicles a night-mare.

He observes that an early public announcement made by the chairman Niger State infrastructural monitoring committee and chief of staff to the governor, that Minna-Bida will be shut down to allow speedy reconstruction of the road from 15th September 2020 yielded the anticipated result as the road became cleaner without the articulated vehicles.

He therefore frowned at the recent decision by the government to allow heavy duty cars ply the road which had made journey for smaller vehicles on the route dangerous and longer, hence the journey of an hour now 4hours due to the congestion of the articulated vehicles on the road.

The hallow chamber however urged the executive arm of government to shut down Minna-Bida road totally from articulated vehicles to allow the contractor continue with work.
