  • As Nigeria Police Force promises credible 2015 general elections

More kudos came the way of the Nigeria Police on Monday 22nd December, 2014 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja when eminent Nigerians, led by a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais GCON, and Chairman Savannah Centre for Diplomacy and Development expressed confidence in the ability of IGP Suleiman Abba led Police administration to conduct a free, fair and credible 2015 general elections.
Justice Uwais (rtd) made this assertion when he led a delegation comprising members from the Centre on an awareness visit/brainstorming session with Police Management Team on securing a credible 2015 General Elections.
While speaking, a member of the delegation, His Excellency Prof. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari CFR, hailed the Nigeria Police Force for its accomplishments in the Global Peace-keeping arena, adding that the visit was necessary to formally introduce the Non-Governmental Organization to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to forge collaboration between government agencies and non-state actors in preparation for a credible 2015 general elections.
In his response, IGP Suleiman Abba CFR, NPOM, NPM, mni expressed gratitude to the team and re-affirmed the readiness and commitment of the Nigeria Police to ensure there was safety and security before, during and after the 2015 general elections.
However, reiterated the need for all Nigerians to cooperate and collaborate, adding that successful conduct of the 2015 general elections is beyond the capability of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police alone, hence the need for stakeholders comprising politicians, the electorate and all Nigerians to ensure a free, fair and credible 2015 general elections.
IGP Abba further informed the delegation that the Police Management Team has put in place series of trainings on election duties and responsibilities with emphasis on professionalism, protection of and respect for Human Rights, which are routinely conducted for officers and men of the Nigeria Police across all Commands and Formations.
