RMRDC Distribute 30 Tonness of Cotton To Farmers In Nasarawa
As part of an effort to enhance the production of cash crops in the country,the Raw Material Research Development Council office in Nasarawa state has distributed 30 tonnes of cotton to farmers in the state.
The coordinator in charge of Nasarawa state, Zakari Eladoga gave the disclosure in an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at his office
Eladoga hinted that RMRDC has given out incentives to major farmers of cotton in Assakio, Akurba, and other farmers within the state.
He stated that the agency which is under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is collaborating with the apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria to explore cash crop farming.
Zakari Eladoga said the encouragement would reduce the high cost of importation of cotton from the diaspora as well would woo investors to the state due to the availability of raw materials.
“Support cotton farmers to reduce the high cost of importation of raw material in the country”.
He stated that the concerted effort of the Federal government is to create jobs for the teeming youths having an interest in farming.
Other areas of concern, according to the state coordinator is that RMRDC focus is on agriculture and solid mineral sectors
Describing Suya beans, maize, groundnut, cotton as strategic crops as he listed the above crops as secondary products which would be processed to finish products.
“Maize is processed to Semovita, cotton to cloth while under the solid minerals bryte is processed to pharmaceutical products as well used for the production of glass, lead and zinc processed ;-)”.
The coordinator maintained that Iron ore, copper, lead, and zinc are found in parts of the state.
” We are in discussion with the state government for the citing of wire industry in the state due to the availability of the raw material”.
Eladoga buttressed that Raw Material Research Development Council is looking at the possibility of not only mining but also the processing of those raw materials and at the end the maximum benefit of the raw.
Speaking on Iron ore found in Toto Local Government, a volatile community of the state,Eladoga revealed that the cases of kidnapping and banditry seriously affect the activities of RMRDC.
He explained that the key objectives of the Raw Material Research Development Council include bridging the gap in raw material sourcing for our industry.
He further explained that the agency is to coordinate and linked between research institutes and industries to the source of raw materials that have a comparative advantage and the Federal Government should stop the importation of such raw materials.
