Farmers in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State has lamented over cheating and swindling they experienced in the hands of LGA officials as well as from over Twenty villages heads in Miga LGA whom they accused of always seeking bribe and gratification from them.
According to the Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, it accused Village heads and some staffs of Miga Local Government Area of collecting money from Farmers before it issues a receipt of allocation to the shortlisted farmers to collect the allocation given to them.
A NEMA official Malam Muhammed Mafuta said he received complaints from Farmers that they are being disturbed by Village Heads that are forcing them to pay N1, 000 before they release their allocation to them.
The official alleged that some officials of the Local Government were making away with the materials meant for Miga farmers because it was confirmed that in each bag of there is ten thousand Naira for farmers inside which is part of the relief support from the federal government.
It was reliably gathered that over 70,000 farmers were to benefit from the federal government support relief material but because of the money placed inside the bags of rice, the traditional rulers connive with the local government officials to collect one thousand from the farmers as gratification before they issued rice to each farmer.
When contacted the public relation officer of the Local Government, Malam Katuka who is also the Village Head of Katuka confirmed the story.
Meanwhile, the village head of Agufa denied the story, as he said there was nothing like that, adding that it is a blatant lie being spread by those who like the progress of the area.
All efforts to speak with the chairman of the council Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar Agufa proved abortive, as he didn’t answer his telephone calls.
